The AIDS conference, held August 3-8, 2008 brought together health workers, government representatives, journalists, activists, corporate leaders, people living with HIV and AIDS, and religious leaders.
Human rights, gender, stigma and discrimination and the strengthening of health systems were among the top issues discussed in plenary sessions, workshops and skills building workshops.
Read the news coverage featuring global religious leaders from the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance, including reports from the faith-based pre-conference. The ecumenical community focused advocacy on lifting travel restrictions as well as took symbolic steps – including washing the feet of two HIV+ women, to draw attention to the importance of combating stigma.
