Feast Incarnate: A weekly dinner and hospitality affair

September 2000

Feast Incarnate is a weekly dinner and hospitality affair serving sixty to seventy-five guests weekly. It is held at University Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, adjacent to the University of Pennsylvania campus, and is co-sponsored by We the People. We the People (WTP) is a city-wide organization run by and for persons affected by HIV/AIDS.

Feast Incarnate began in 1988 to provide an informal and friendly environment where WTP guests could come to visit with friends and support one another over a nutritious meal. Feast has been supported by area Lutheran congregations, Synodical committees, the Bishop and his assistants, a Disciples of Christ Congregation, Lutheran Campus Ministry , local restaurants, U of P service organizations, and by the Lutheran Brotherhood. Each week a different group
provides, prepares and serves the meal. It is an ideal opportunity for youth groups, senior citizens, social ministry committees, or Sunday school classes to learn about our mission as God's people to serve the community in a way that is needed.

In addition to nourishment for the body, Feast has also provided spiritual nourishment for our guests. Over the past year we have held services of healing to mark the Feast of Saint Luke, and in conjunction with memorial services. This fall we will be holding Services of Healing the third Tuesday of each month.

In addiition, free confidential HIV testing is now being offered on site on Tuesday evenings, and we are hoping to begin offering free legal services to our guests on a monthly basis.

Congregations or groups interested in participating in Feast Incarnate should call University Lutheran at (215) 387-2885 for more information.
